Peninsula-shaped terrain dots Korean landscape

Peninsula-shaped terrain dots Korean landscape

A skywalk that Jeongseon County, Gangwon, built for 1.6 billion won (1.43 million dollar) in June 2012, overlooks one of the country’s most famous peninsula-shaped terrains.
The Korean Peninsula’s distinctive shape, which some liken to a rabbit or a crouched tiger – in either case wearing an embarrassing barbed-wire demarcation belt on its waist – looms too large to identify if it’s viewed from the lower stratosphere.
But it can be seen from the naked eye in certain places – and some of them are nearby.
Korea marked the 68th anniversary of Liberation Day on Thursday and to highlight the delight of regaining the peninsula from the hands of colonial Japan – though it was followed only five years later by the 1950-53 Korean War – the JoongAng Ilbo weekend section team hit the road to find lands shaped like the peninsula.
To our surprise, we found many such topographies throughout Korea, including Seon-am Maeul in Yeongwol County, Gangwon, which came on the verge of losing its shape due to a road expansion project in the 2000s.
But the residents successfully fended off the construction project, preserving the geography.
In 2009, Yeongwol changed the name of Seo-myeon, on which the topography sits, to Hanbando-myeon (hanbando is the Korean word for the Korean Peninsula).
The project promoting the peninsula-shaped topography, into which the county injected 1.5 billion won ($1.3 million), was a big success and 950,000 people visited the county last year.
The view from an observation tower in Hanbando-myeon, Yeongwol County, Gangwon.
Other regional governments followed, including Naju, a South Jeolla city, which spent 1 billion won to build an observational tower that overlooks its peninsula-shaped terrain. Another Gangwon county, Yanggu, built an artificial island resembling the peninsula in the middle of Paro Lake.
There are more than 20 peninsula-shaped landscapes across South Korea.
Absolutely gorgeous! Maybe one day…before I leave this Earth, I can visit South Korea from shore to shore!

Finally!! Lee Bo-yeong, Ji Seong to Wed in September

Lee Bo-yeong, Ji Seong to Wed in September

Actor couple Lee Bo-yeong and Ji Seong are finally tying the knot after dating for six years. They posted handwritten letters on their official online fan sites to announce the news on Friday.

The two met on the set of the 2004 SBS series “Save the Last Dance for Me“, but their romantic relationship did not become public knowledge until paparazzi caught them together in 2007.

Rumors of a separation started to bubble up when the couple still showed no inclination to marry after dating for six years.

But they said they have been preparing for their wedding since March and will get married in Seoul on Sept. 27.

Well, It’s about time! C’mon! You set up fireworks for your girlfriend’s birthday? I was wondering when they were going to take that final step! Congratulations to both of them!!

So What’s Next!!!

Now that Cruel City *tears* is over, What’s Next?!!

Less than 24 hours later, waking up to a dark, gloomy and rainy day, what’s next after the end of Cruel City/Heartless City? If you haven’t watched this drama and you are a fan of the Action/Suspense drama, this is a MUST-SEE!! But what’s next for me? Even though I am still suffering from the pains and heart-aches, I must turn to next week and the leave behind my new love, Yoon Hyun Min (Cutie Soo for those in the know) and turn to my old and continuing loves of Lee Jun Ki  and So Ji Sub as BOTH return to the screen in what may continue to be an exciting year for drama!!

My first drama sweetheart, Lee Jun Ki returns as Jang Tae-San, a man falsely accused of murder who recently learns that he has a daughter, suffering from leukemia. For the next two weeks, he will be struggling to save his daughter and ultimately clear his name.

My Excitement
Three words: Lee Jun Ki!! As I have stated, he was and remains my first drama love! I am SO excited that he returns to the genre that I think he excels in because of his abilities in the martial arts as well as projecting excitement! I will definitely be curious how the writers handle the story line as the drama is only 16 episodes. The writing better be super tight! I’m also excited to see the other cast of Kim So Yeon, Ryu Soo Young (who I’m familiar with) and Park Ha Sun (who I’ve only seen in Advertising Genius). I especially can’t wait to see Tae-San’s interaction with his little daughter, Soo-Jin because what else can pull at your heartstrings is little child actors!! What is worse, little child actors as SICK children!!
What could be better than a little horror!!?? Dramaland sure was thinking about me this year and for my birthday, I get to see my second drama love, So Ji Sub return, not only in a different type of drama but with one of my absolutely favorite leading ladies,  Gong Hyo Jin! 2013 just got better and the loss of Cruel City has definitely been lessen with this drama entrance into my “Currently Viewing” list.

The story revolves around a woman who can see ghosts and a man who tries to protect her, and is described as a drama with horror and romantic elements infused together. So Ji Sub plays the miserly, greedy, and conceited CEO Joo Joong Won (what else is new on this character description), who measures all human relationships through money. Gong Hyo Jin will play the melancholy and tearful assistant Tae Gong Shil, who is able to see ghosts after an accident and thus suffers from insomnia.

My Excitement
Exactly how much time will I spend sighing as I watch So Ji Sub on the screen and actually watching the drama?!! Horror is not one of my favorite genre, anyone who knows me knows this; however, you add these two in the mix, it guarantees that I will be watching with ALL THE LIGHTS turned on! You betcha!!

Honorable Mention

Love the main cast! Especially Joo Sang Wook and Joo Won; have mad respect for Moon Chae Won but my excitement level for this is really not that high. Even though I love Joo Won; Joo Sang Wook playing second lead does bother me but a man got to work! So if I drop Who Are You (like I have a feeling I will be), I will definitely be picking this up. Haven’t seen a teaser, preview or nothing so I’m going into this blind!

A Wedding! A Wedding!! Lee Byeong-heon and Lee Min-jeong’s wedding shoot

Lee Byeong-heon and Lee Min-jeong’s wedding shoot

Lee Byeong-Heon and Lee Min-jeong completed their wedding photo shoot.
They shot their pictures in Korea two weeks ago and they will be released on the 30th.
They wanted peace and quiet so it wasn’t let known to the media. They were just an ordinary husband and wife and very beautiful”.
Lee Byeong-Heon and Lee Min-jeong are getting married this coming 10th of August at the Grand Hyatt.

Source and Hancinema

Very exciting! As we get closer and closer to the date. I couldn’t be happier whenever my favorite actors find their soul-mates!! As a fan, I only want their happiness!! So, Congratulations to the couple and I look forward to the pictures after August 10th!!

More to Come

Drama Thoughts- My Love Affair with Ugly Alert

Ugly Alert-A Wonderful Family Drama that I Wish More People Could Watch
Im Joo Hwan as Gong Joon SooKang So Ra as Na Do HeeChoi Tae Joon as Gong Hyeon SeokKang Byul as Gong Jin JooSeol Hyun as Gong Na RiKim Young Hoon as Han SeoShin So Yool as Shin Joo YeongHyun Woo as Kang Cheol Soo

SynopsisPeople, who have different lives, become a family because of their parents. They sometimes look down on other family members and jealous of other family members. Through all of this, they get to understand each other and cure their wounds. A man, in particular, goes through infinite sacrifices.~mydramalist

A drama that shows the meaning of family and how everyone within that frame understand and heal each other although sometimes they can be jealous and ignore each other.

My Thoughts:

I started watching this simply because of Im Joo Hwan. After seeing him in What’s Up, I was really hoping that when he returned from military service that he would again return to drama as the lead. His portrayal of Joon Soo has been phenomenal.

Briefly, Joon Soo’s father married the mother of Hyeon Seok and Jin Joo when he was 12 years old. After the tragic death of both parents, Joon Soo decides that he must take care of his siblings to include their new baby sister, Na Ri born shortly before the mother died.

Joon Soo takes it upon himself to quit school and work to support his family even though the step sister and brother resent him (yeah, he is 13!).
Some of the scenes between Joon Soo and Na Ri are so precious, his love of his family is so pure, he is the the sole source of support for the next 7 years.

After an unfortunately accident which Joon Soo takes responsibility for, he ends up going to prison for 12 years. As you can expect, this devastates the family but the details I will not go in to because it is the crux of the story.
After his release from prison, his story and relationship with Do Hee begins; a chance meeting whereby she learns of one of his amazing talents.
As a result of this meeting, Joon Soo goes to work for Do Hee in her little merchandising store in one of the local market places in Seoul.
Again, she continues to learn his many talents; especially his ability to interact with the female customers (as long as they don’t touch him, a story line humorously portrayed).

Unknown to Joon Soo is the fact that Do Hee is the grand-daughter to the owner of the BY Group; a large merchandising conglomerate who specializes in clothing and designs AND who is being pursued by not one but two men: BY Group’s legal advisor, Han Seo, a seriously cold and calculating man who definitely does not know how to woe a woman AND Joon Soo’s step brother Hyeon Seok. Luckily, so far, the possible romance between them is pretty much an impossibility  Do Hee knows who she wants and it ain’t them!

I love Do Hee’s character. She is definitely not a shrinking violet! She is one of those strong, female characters that we rarely get to see in Korean dramas! Not her father or grandfather dominate her! I’d be surprised if they can force her hand. Even if its marriage or business!

Joo Yeong is definitely our typical, rich and spoiled princess! As Do Hee’s cousin, she fancies herself in love with Hyeon Seok. I still love her character and she is funny in how she will do just about anything to get Hyeon Seok’s attention; even though she knows he has an interest in Do Hee, she has been reassured by her that the interest is NOT reciprocated.

Na Ri is the typical, spoiled little sister. You really can’t fault her too much as being the youngest, she has been spoiled by all.

Cheol Soo, best friend of Hyeon Seok, has been a surprising treat! His absolute love and devotion to Jin Joo, who is trying to avoid it at cost, is definitely making their relationship an interesting side romance in this story. He loves her and she hides her love for him for two reasons: his status and his age (yes, he is younger than her). Their story is now beginning to be developed and the future episodes will definitely bring their conflict to the forefront.

The chemistry between Im Joo Hwan and Kang So Ra is off the charts! Their play at love (his mostly avoidance) is fun to watch. Needless to say, she does not know his past yet (I’m at episode 40) but I imagine when this comes to the forefront, it will be the major conflict to their relationship. I am really curious as to how the writer is going to handle this. This subject matter is rarely featured in dramas; I think My Name is InSoo and Padam Padam are the only times I’ve seen this but if you ever get to see this, there is a difference: Joon Soo is INNOCENT!

SO, where am I watching this gem? Currently, the only place with some sort of subs is DarkSmurfSub Website. The subbing is mediocre for most of the episodes but any episodes that have been 100% subbed and validated are decent. I am SO happy to have found this! As I had predicted, it is turning out to be as good as I had hoped!! Now, if I could just find Sweet Springs, my drama happiness would be complete!

She is Wow- A Retrospective

She is Wow and a Non-Perfect Ending?

Yes, In Typical K-Drama Fashion

First of all, if you have not seen the ending and you are watching this drama, I will give you time to click away from this rant.
Ok, What the HELL was that?!!! Seriously? Really? Did the writers change mid-way or did the drugs and medication wear off or something? What I found interesting at the beginning of the finale was that it was going the route of “Who Dun It?” and I really thought that was kind of clever. The writer(s) set up the scenario where all three female characters entered the house and had the opportunity to kill poor Sung Gi. My feelings at that time was “Ok, this is pretty neat!”
However, then what was neat went into the, excuse my language, the wtf**kery territory! I could not BELIEVE it!! Firstly, you are going to try to convince me that all of these years, out of some freaking guilty conscious, that Gong Jung Han was having a homosexual relationship with Sung Gi simply because?!! What?!! Who the HELL would do that?!!  I literally had to stop the drama and started laughing out loud at the ridiculous notion! It’s been several hours since I saw the finale and I’m still trying to figure that one out.
If that wasn’t bad enough, let’s not begin to forget the rushed and stupid explanation of the weirdest Housemaid ever story! After all those years, how in the hell did Jo Ah Ra and Gong Jung Han NOT know her background? Why do I say that? Because here in the US, I don’t think anyone works for movie stars and other celebrities without a background check. To think that these two people who depend solely on public perception would allow someone in their home, access to everything in their home, access to their child and NOT know their background is totally unbelievable to me! Considering how private Korean stars try to stay and how squeaky clean they like their persona to remain, would you believe this?
On the brother from hell. So now at the nth hour he has concern for his sister’s well-being? What happened to his concern about 5-6 episodes ago when he began trying to find dirt and gossip on his own sister? To leave him totally unscathed was a total let-down.
The General, his wife, his minions and the weirdest looking dog I’ve ever seen (okay some will find him cute)? They could have left that part of the finale on the cutting room floor. Just saying. Just my opinion.
Now, the only saving grace of the entire finale was Min Gyu. He was cute, funny, and adorable from the beginning to end. His conversation with Sung Gi was so sweet and personal, I really liked that scene. At the end, he didn’t care so much as that he wanted everyone happy again; including his hyung!
Two final notes.
Was the shot focusing on the bat in the basement a dig on the Korean police and their ineptness? Was I the only one who thought that? Remember, the last thing the detective said was they were looking for the murder weapon. If the bat was still in the house, why in the HELL didn’t they find it?
Was I the only one who was looking from left to right; front to back when the family was sitting on the street in the car waiting for a truck, car or bus to come barreling into them, all possibly driven by the wacky housemaid? Was I really the only one? C’mon, she said even if it meant killing them all! And who said the police caught her at the airport (again, a dig on the ineptness)?
Overall, as it was only 12 episodes, I cannot say that I wasted my entire time, I’ve wasted a HELL of a lot more hours on a whole lot of dramas. But one thing I did get out of this was a great introduction to Jung Jin Young as Min Gyu. Before you say I should know him because he is in B1A4, you have to remember that I don’t know squat about K-Pop! But now when I see his name, I will be really curious to see him again and his future roles. So for that, thank you She is Wow and no, I would NEVER recommend you to anybody!
                                  Thanks for making this entertaining!!

My Thoughts: Imagine my surprise when my daughter says “I know you know who this Korean guy is?” I told you, “You Betcha!” How did this fly under my movie radar? I was totally surprised! What a way to introduce the ENglish speaking public to some great Korean actors, especially one like Song Kang Ho! I really believe as more and more movies and dramas are introduced to American streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu, I expect to see more and GREAT Korean actors like Kang Ho to “cross-over” to the Hollywood screen. Okay, my daughter said she has to see this, me too!

Kim Hyun-Joong Returns to the Screen? Now this is Definitely Big News!!

Kim Hyun-joong comes back with a drama in 3 years

Kim Hyun-joong is coming back with the role of hero Sin Jeong-tae in the new KBS drama “Generation of Youth“.

Generation of Youth” is based in 1930 Shanghai about youths who go through love, friendship and passion. Sin Jeong-tae is clumsy and random at times but he is the greatest fighter in all of the backstreets of Shanghai.

Based on the original by Bang Hak-gi, Kim Hyun-joong is finally making his first drama come back in 3 years. He was to return sooner with “City Conquest” but had to step down as it fell through.
Source: TVDaily and Hancinema

Now this was BIG news this morning! I had to immediately post it for all to see!! When the ill-fated City Conquest was cancelled, I mourned its lose because I thought it was going to be an exciting and different role for him. But from the brief information on this, this might be a good substitute! I know, a lot of people call him stiff in his acting, but I’ve always personally liked his characters! Hell, if I can watch one butt arrogant character after another in other dramas, I can tolerate his. This from someone who LIKED Playful Kiss, my third drama ever watched!

Who’s excited with me?!!!

My Second..or is it Third Sweetheart-So Ji Sub and New Drama, Master’s Sun News

Scenes from the Upcoming Master’s Sun following I Hear Your Voice

Master’s Sun” So Ji-sub is chic and proud

So Ji-sub was seen filming the new SBS drama “Master’s Sun” last month.
So Ji-sub takes on the role of Joo Joong-won, a director of his own company who is so tightfisted in money that he puts a price tag on everyone he knows.

So Ji-sub had a small prep talk with producer Jin Hyeok before the camera started rolling and monitored his scenes whenever he got the chance. A big water tank was needed at the scene on this day to create a stormy scene. So Ji-sub still managed to act out the cold and sensitive character in the pouring rain.

Apparently, he has been analyzing his character ever since the first day and has earned faith. All his efforts come to life when he stands in front of the camera.
So Ji-sub‘s “Master’s Sun” is about a cold-hearted man and a woman who has the ability to see ghosts. The cast includes, So Ji-sub, Kong Hyo-jin, Seo In-guk, Kim Yoo-ri-I and more. To be aired on the 31st if this month after “I Hear Your Voice“.

Cold-check; Calculating:check; Hardly Smiles:Probably. Yes, this pretty much sums up just about all his characters; however, being a fan, I really don’t care as long as he brings a good performance like he did in last year’s Ghost. Sure, I missed Choi Daniel like everyone else but I think So Ji-sub did a decent job in showing us a snippet of Daniel’s character. Yes, I know it is so rare to see him smile. I probably could count using both hands how many times I’ve seen it but what I’ve always appreciated about him is the obvious time he takes in studying and bringing his character’s to life. Yes, I definitely plan on adding this to my Currently Watching list.

(No Official Posters Yet)

The story revolves around a woman who can see ghosts and a man who tries to protect her, and is described as a drama with horror and romantic elements infused together. So Ji Sub plays the miserly, greedy, and conceited CEO Joo Joong Won, who measures all human relationships through money. Gong Hyo Jin will play the melancholy and tearful assistant Tae Gong Shil, who is able to see ghosts after an accident and thus suffers from insomnia. She lives a very reclusive and closed-off life due to her ability. The story is being touted as “soul healing” drama that brings together very different types of people: one who can see and hear things that no one else in the world can and another who only hears and see things he wants too. As Joo Joong Won starts to believe in Tae Gong Shil’s claim of being able to see ghosts, these two people will grow together in faith and in character.
