Synopsis: The Amamiya Brothers, Masaki and Hiroto, keep looking for their older brother Takeru who disappeared one year ago. The three Amamiya brothers lost their parents when they were young. Since then, they relied only on each other. On the anniversary of their parents’ death, Masaki and Hiroto expect Takeru to appear. Instead, they meet a person who has a clue on Takeru’s whereabouts. Why did Takeru leave Masaki and Hiroto ?
Musings: Anyone who knows me and has read my previous postings and tweets about the High and Low dramas and previous movie knows that my love for all of the other pretty boys in the other gangs were superceded once the Amamiya Brothers came on the screen. So, now when the ending of the High and Low: The Movie (2016) featured a brief clip showing you that the next move (this one) would be all about the brothers, I was BEYOND excited! And add to the fact that the one, my most BIGGEST Japanese actor crush would play the eldest brother would be none other than Saito Takumi, let’s just say “A Girl CAN’T help but SQUEEEEE”!!
I really don’t have a lot of bad things to say about this movie. The English subs (there is a drama god) are just okay and need a little tweaking but the story line is such that you really make sense of the action and the movie as the story progresses.
The movie also showed you just how close these boys were as a family! Imagine my surprise to see that the brothers were actually step brothers (2 oldest to the youngest) and became a family when the youngest was still in his teens; however, it was the eldest, Takeru, played wonderfully by Saito, who was the glue and the brotherhood foundation to their true brotherly relationship!
I loved that the writer made sure that you understood the reasoning behind the title of the movie! The fact that the rain in conjunction with the bright red lights of the police cars when their parents died under the lie of a double suicide had an adverse effect on the brothers, especially the middle one, Masaki who would constantly say:
The story starts off with the brothers together but then Takeru disappears to parts unknown. The younger brothers have no idea why and their lives for the next couple of years is in search of him.
There is no doubt that the camera loves these three men together! The cinematography was awesome and the camera captures of the brothers together, separate or in one of the many action scenes left you breathless….okay, me!
Overall, a movie I enjoyed immensely! So much so, that I will take the time to fix the English subtitles; however, believe me when I say, nothing can take away your joy from watching an entire movie featuring the Amamiya Brothers from start to finish!
