Movie Monday (Late) – Fabricated City (2017)

Starring: Ji Chang Wook as Kwon Yoo, Shim Eun Kyeong as Yeo Wool, Ahn Jae Hong as Demolition, Oh Jung Se as Min Cheon Sang, Kim Ki Cheon as Yeobaekui Mi, and Kim Sang Ho as Ma Deok Soo

Rating: PG-13/R, subject matter and some violence

Running Time: 126 min

Twinkies: 4 1/2 stars

Synopsis: In real life, Kwon Yoo is just an unemployed man who lives day by day by eating cup noodles in real life, but in the virtual game world he is the best leader. Kwon Yoo is then framed for a murder. With the help of hacker Yeo Wool, he tries to uncover the truth behind the murder case.

Musings: What do you get when you combine the movie, Hackers with Tron? You get a sometimes fast paced movie starring Ji Chang Wook in Fabricated City. The movie sometimes gets dark and gritty. I admit that the prison scenes are pretty graphic and you start to think you are watching Fight Club or even Prison Break. The level of abuse can be pretty stunning! I have to say this because all the fans of Chang Wook will definitely be surprised at the level of violence that begins this movie.

Casting was sensational! Shim Eum Kyeong as Yeo Wool is really unrecognizable in the beginning. Kim Sang Ho as the notorious and twisted Ma Deok Soo puts on a performance that is beyond memorable. The rest of the supporting cast do an excellent job in the various characters that they play but as expected, Ji Chang Wook and Kim Sang Ho are definitely the two you will not walk away and forget.

Overall, this is a stunt laden, graphics filled movie that fills the last hour fully and crescendos into a final chase scene that for me was worth replaying and making a GIF to commemorate such a scene. I highly recommend this movie even if you aren’t a fan of the leads but stay for the action!
