Movie Monday – Thanksgiving Movies ~ Kid’s Edition

Starring: See Cast List

Rating: G to PG

Running Time: Varies

Twinkies: 4 stars and up!

Movie Thoughts: Okay, so my last post was rather dark! I admit it, I hardly watch anything else; however, because of one special boy in my life, Nelly’s son A, I’ve been blessed with revisiting (and re-watching) children’s movies. Here’s some lighter fare for the holidays. And yes, I watched every single one of them!

Pete's Dragon (2016)

Pete’s Dragon (2016)

Starring: Bryce Dallas Howard as Grace, Robert Redford as Meacham, Oakes Fegley as Pete, Oona Laurence as Natalie, Wes Bentley as Jack, and Karl Urban as Gavin
Running Time: 103 min

Movie Musings: I must admit the live action was slightly better than the animated version. It was a very long time ago that I saw it but the basis of the animated version were present in the live action. As expected, the action of the adults just wore on your nerves but as Nelly said, the important thing was Pete ended up in a loving home and still had Elliot (the dragon) in his life. Good movie.

The Secret Lives of Pets (2016)

The Secret Lives of Pets (2016)

Starring: Louis C.K. as Max (voice), Eric Stonestreet as Duke (voice), Kevin Hart as Snowball (voice), Jenny Slate as Gidget (voice), Ellie Kemper as Katie (voice), Albert Brooks as Tiberius (voice), Lake Bell as Chloe (voice), Dana Carvey as Pops (voice) and many, many more!

Running Time: 87 min

Movie Musings: I must say, even when I saw the trailer of this movie, I wanted to go! Forgot the ratings, this was a really fun movie! The trailers and teasers were just the tip of the funniest! I had a great time watching it and plan on watching it again and again!

The Secret Lives of Pets (2016)

The Lorax (2012)

Starring: Danny DeVito as The Lorax (voice), Ed Helms as The Once-ler (voice), Zac Efron as Ted (voice), Taylor Swift as Audrey (voice), Betty White as Grammy Norma (voice) and many, many more!

Running Time: 86 min

Movie Musings: The fun thing about these new animated movies is trying to put voice to face! Story wise, this was the Dr. Seuss we all grew up with and our children grew up with. There was definitely a lesson behind the story and the colorful scenes were stunning. I’m really liking the new movies now for children! So much talent is being used now to make scenes come to life.

Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)

The Lorax (2012)

Starring: Charlize Theron as Monkey (voice), Art Parkinson as Kubo (voice), Ralph Fiennes as Moon King (voice), George Takei as Hosato (voice), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Hashi (voice), Brenda Vaccaro as Kameyo (voice), Rooney Mara as The Sisters (voice), Matthew McConaughey as Beetle (voice) and many, many more!

Running Time: 101 min

Movie Musings: This movie is not only good but it is great! What a fascinating tale of a Japanese tale infusing the Japanese art into animation for all to see. Not only a wonderful story but also beautifully told! But Matthew McConaughey as Beetle had me laughing A LOT! This is definitely one that I will watch over and over again. And, if you are listening, Hollywood, I would love a life action movie even more!
