New Drama Fare on KBSWorld YouTube (November, 2014)

KBS, in conjunction with KBSWorld, continues to make drama watching easier for us international viewers. If you didn’t know, here are some current dramas now on KBSWorld YouTube and/or others coming soon.

You Are My Destiny (2008)
Premiered: 2014 November 3, with English subtitle. It stars Lee Ji Hoon, Im Yoon Ah, Park Jae Jeong, and Gong Hyun Joo

Stars Yoon Ah in her first leading drama role as Jang Sae Byuk. A girl who tries to find a new meaning in life after she receives an eye cornea transplant from the doctor that took care of her after her accident. That doctor, Kim Na Young, died in a car accident on her way back from Africa. Sae Byuk becomes close with the Na Young’s family after finding them.

Haven’t decided whether or not I am going to tackle this whopping 178 episode daily drama yet. Lee Ji Hoon is calling me! We will see…

Love & Secret aka Sweet Secret
Premiered: 2014 November 24, with English, Chinese subtitles. It stars Kim Heung Soo, Shin So Yool, Yang Jin Woo

I’ve missed Shin So Yool since Ugly Alert but this time, she is Han Ah Reum, a single mother and daughter of the Minister of Culture. Chun Sung Woon (Kim Heung Soo) is the director of a large fashion company. He meets Han Ah Reum, and becomes attracted to her. Due to Han Ah Reum and her daughter, Chun Sung Woon changes as a person.

3 episodes in, this is definitely a family drama and I think it is slightly different because both leads are of the same social class but the twist is definitely single parenting. I love when Koreans deal with these social issues because they simply drive me crazy with their way of thinking. I’m looking forward to the relationship as it develops as well as how the social issue of single parenthood is dealt with.

Coming Soon is The King’s Face (2014)

Premieres 2014 December 3 with English subtitles and stars Seo In Guk, Lee Sung Jae, Jo Yoon Hee, and Shin Sung Rok.

Drama series follows the life of Prince Gwang Hae. Even though he is the child of a concubine, he becomes the crown prince. For the next 16 years, until he becomes the King, Prince Gwang Hae suffers through dethronement and death threats. Using physiognomy as a weapon, he is able to become the King.

KBS continues to lead the pack in bringing Korean entertainment to the world. With the recent announcement that MBC will be making available over 2,500 dramas and shows to the internet, one can only hope that they will follow suit in the future and bring some of the more recent dramas to us willing viewers! If I can put in a request: more dailies!! I’d love to watch Mother’s Garden or even the currently airing Apgujeong Midnight Sun with English subtitles! Make it so, MBC!!
