I’m constantly looking for these little tidbits because they are always a surprise! But this is the first time hearing about this. Screen Gems is currently in the planning and casting stage of a remake of the bad-azz Indonesian movie; The Raid: Redemption. Thanks to my daughter, I even heard about this movie in the first as I don’t watch a lot of Thai movies but I do remember this one well.
Variety is reporting that previous plans to start shooting the action film beginning in September have been pushed back and pre-production has been halted; however, there is still interest in the film to begin shooting in the first quarter of 2015.
The film was close to putting together a cast ensemble that would consist Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans, Fast & Furious 6), Frank Grillo (Captain America, Breakout Kings), Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Captain America), and Ethan Hawke (Daybreakers, Gattaca) were all in consideration for roles; however, no final decisions have been made as of yet. A source states that it’s possible that one reason for the delay is that producers are seeking a bigger name.
Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3, Red Hill) is still on board to direct while Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace) is set to be the screenwriter.
The original 2011 movie was about an elite Indonesian S.W.A.T. team raids a building where a gangster and his thugs are embedded and chaos ensues. The remake will have a similar storyline.

Not sure what to think on this one. One thing for sure, the American version sure won’t be more gruesome! If anything I imagine it would be tamer because none of the cast in consideration are known for any really tough, action films (sorry, I don’t count Captain America).
