The Korean movie “The Fatal Encounter“, based on Jeongjo, the 22nd ruler of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), and the power struggles of the royal family. Hyun Bin takes on the role of the young King Jeongjo, the king of misfortune. This drama is about that political struggle for power during the Chosun Times. Lotte Entertainment announced yesterday its plans to premiere The Fatal Encounter in North American theaters next month.
“It will open on May 23 on about 25 screens in North America”, said the distributor. “The local distribution has been arranged by Dream West Pictures, which previously released other Korean films like ‘Secretly and Greatly‘, “The Face Reader” and ‘Friends 2‘ in North America”.
Dream West reportedly said it sees similarities between “The Fatal Encounter” and “The Face Reader”, which is also a historical costume-drama and was popular with Western viewers. (Note: If it is ANYTHING like The Face Reader, I expect a lot of violence too!!)
The director is Lee Jae-kyoo (The King2Hearts, Fashion 70s, and Damo) and stars Hyun Bin as King Jeongjo, Jeong Jae-yeong as Sang-chaek, Jo Jung-seok as Sal-soo, Jo Jae-hyeon as Gwang-baek, and Han Ji-min as Queen Jeongsun
“The Fatal Encounter” will open April 30 in Korea. I’m really, really hoping it comes here to Virginia. I was happy to be able to see Friend 2 and it was a pretty decent crowd for a Thursday night. Here’s hoping!!
